ABOUT PUSS ‘N’ POOCH GALLERY

Puss ‘n’ Pooch Gallery is the initiative/brainstorm of its proprietor, Jenny Gibson, and rises from her love of animals in general and cats in particular. As a cat owner, Jenny noted some years ago that it was most difficult, if not impossible, to purchase good quality cat–related giftware and collectibles.

As a consequence, in 1994, believing there was a market for such products, Jenny with the help of her husband Peter took the bit between her teeth and opened the Puss ‘n’ Pooch Gallery in Darling St, Balmain (Sydney, Australia) specialising in cat and dog paraphernalia – hence the name. In 2000, increasing overheads associated with the shop resulted in its closure and Puss ‘n’ Pooch now operates on line through our own website, EBay as well as at most CFA cat shows held in Sydney and specific country locations, the Sydney Royal Easter Show (located in the Cat Pavilion,).

For a time Puss 'n' Pooch Gallery did not cater a lot for our dog lover friends, however, due to demand we have now increased our range of Dog related products.  We prefer to keep our range restricted to quality items. We feature a number of products from Country Artists, Border Fine Arts and recently added John Beswick range.  We also offer a great range of Miniature Ceramic breed related figurines.  Additionally, we currently sell a good range of Jewelled Boxes and are always on the lookout for new and interesting breed related items as well as the odd novelty product.

Whilst the majority of Puss ‘n’ Pooch’s products is related to cats, experience over the years has shown there is a bond between cat and horse people, hence a number of horse ornaments is also offered along with some frogs, elephants, owls, chooks, pigs etc which always seem to be an item of interest to collectors.

Puss ‘n’ Pooch Gallery’s aim has and always will be to provide Cat lovers with a quality product.

SHENA

Brown Tortie Burmese – Photo taken at 13 years

Unfortunately my beloved Shena passed away June 6, 2008 at the age of 17 1/2 years

Shena was purchased at approximately the same time as Scruffy from what turned out to be dubious “backyard” breeders and was one of a litter of 2 – (we should have taken both). Unbeknown to us at the time she was asthmatic and despite treatment over a period of time, the condition did not ease, hence treatment was discontinued with no apparent ill effects.
Shena has always been inquisitive and as a young cat sustained a broken leg as a result of a (presumed) excursion along a picket fence. She now walks with a decided waddle. She is a typical Tortie, somewhat naughty, certainly stubborn and determined in the extreme, but exceedingly affectionate, particularly towards Jenny, and most vocal when the occasion demands.

Shena sleeps most nights snuggled up with Jenny, or wrapped around her head, and acts as an alarm clock in the morning (first light regardless of the time of year) when she considers it is time for breakfast – Jenny’s cat.

SCRUFFY

Moggy photo taken at aged 13

Scruffy left us in September 2007 aged 16 1/2 years

Scruffy was born in a race horse stable, his mother was the stable ratter and was a small grey tabby with some Persian somewhere in her background, by an “unidentified sire” (presumed feral).

Scruffy was named in part, because of his eating habits, no doubt inherited from his father, and is, like his mother, a keen catcher of rats, mice, locusts and birds (very slow feral miner birds only) and anything that moves in the garden. He also is a most affectionate cat whose purr more than trebles in volume his meow, and who has a habit of biting you should you ignore him when he is seeking attention, which is often.

Despite his size (approx 6kg or 16 lbs), Scruffy is an utter wimp and has come off second best in a number of skirmishes over the years (to the local vets delight), he is totally faithful (to whoever is feeding him and often camps beside his feed bowl to let you know he is hungry) and is a most loved member of the family – Peter’s mate.
