Postage and packaging charges

At phenoptix we have always aimed to give you the customer the best value for money. Fair postage and packaging charges are a big part of this.

Until fairly recently we avoided "free" shipping options as to be honest, you always pay for the shipping. Sometimes it is just included.

We started offering included shipping as for a time eBay insisted on it in some categories we listed in, and also gave our listings higher priority in searches because of it. The value for money of buying multiples of some of our lower price items suffered due to these policies and we now aim to charge shipping on most items and offer combined shipping on all but the very heavy items we sell (comparatively heavy).

We believe this offers the best value for money since we can offer a pricing plan that reflects the costs incurred for a single transaction, and the savings made for multiple transactions.

For example a single transaction incurs:
Cost of packing materials (Eg. Jiffy Bag 10p)
Cost of postage (Eg. Stamp 39p)
Payment provider fee (Eg. Paypal Fee (20p +3.4%)
Cost of Goods

Multiples thereafter incur:
Cost of Goods

Therefore a we believe an initial P&P fee followed by a combined shipping discount the fairest and cheapest way to go.

NOTE: To combine shipping it is vital that you only pay once you have finished purchasing all the items you wish to. At this stage they should be combined automatically into one invoice and you should only get charged one amount of shipping.

We aim to have all our listings revised to reflect this by July 2010
