Grading system for kits
In order to make it easier for customers to know what to expect of each kit and how difficult or easy they are to make we have graded them all. This grading system runs from 1 to 5 and is explained below. The desription of each kit will detail which category it is in.
The painted models do not have grades as they are finished models ready to use from the box.
Category 1: any kit that comprises one piece castings that require no construction. They will still need painting and fixing to the layout. Many of the models in this category literally come in one piece others comprise a number of individual pieces that can stand alone on your layout but are packaged together in our range, for example the crowd of 30 people.
Category 2: kits where only two pieces need joining together. This may mean adding a base to a post for example.
Category 3: kits where several pieces require relatively simple assembly. Many of the vehicles fall into this category where, for example, they have a single piece cab, a chassis, a back and the 4 wheels. There are no difficult construction techniques required and the process is straightforward. The only difference between categories 2 and 3 is that more than 2 pieces are involved.
Category 4: kits comprising a number of parts that require careful assembly. Construction may benefit from being undertaken in stages and typically these kits will have an instruction sheet.
Category 5: kits comprising a large number of parts that require careful assembly. There may be some shaping of parts to fit. These kits are not recommended to the complete beginner |
