CHIP- REdSETTER
Instructions and refilling of Canon CLI-8 and PGI-5 Cartridges
spacer1 spacer1

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing this product. We are convinced that you will be entirely satisfied and hope for your repeat purchase.

The main purpose of the Chip is to monitor ink levels and to provide an on-screen message, telling you that the cartridge is empty. Your CHIP-REdSETTER allows you to restore this function and, once you have refilled your cartridge, resume full use.

Warning
Syringes and ink must be kept out of reach of children at all times. The printer sends you an on-screen message, telling you when a cartridge is empty. Please remove the concerned cartridge as instructed for resetting and refilling.

Recommendation
Refill cartridges immediately after removal from the printer in order to avoid drying of the remaining ink in the cartridge.

Step 1: Resetting
1. Slide the black (PGI-5) cartridge, Chip facing the CHIP-REdSETTE R , into the guide. (picture 1)

2. Push the cartridge down to ensure that the Chip touches the contact plate. The short flash signals the contact has been made. The following continuous LED-light tells you that the programming has been successfully completed. The cartridge can be removed and refilled.

3. To program the colour (CLI-8) cartridges, slide the provided adapter into place and repeat the process, as described for the black (PGI- 5) cartridge. (picture 2)

Step 2: Refilling
Avoid possible staining of your work surface by placing the cartridge on paper towels or other absorbant material.

1. Hold the cartridge with the ink outlet facing upwards.

2. Use the drill provided (2 mm drill) to drill a hole into the cartridge wall opposing the Chip. Try to drill into the centre if at all possible (picture 3). Do not drill too deep to avoid damage to the foam (picture 4)

Tip: A reasonable amount of pressure is required to drill a hole into the cartridge. We therefore recommend to heat the tip of the drill with a naked flame for 8 to 10 seconds.

3. Assemble the syringe and needle provided.

4. Fill the syringe by inserting the needle diagonally into the septum of the appropriate ink bottle (The septum prevents ink spillage) (picture 5/6) and take approx. 10 ml of ink for colour (CLI-8) cartridges and approx. 16 ml of ink for black (PGI-5) cartridge. You need two fi llings of the syringe because of the limited capacity of the syringe.

5. Insert the needle into the fi lling hole and guide it through the channel (pictures 7/8) through the opening on the opposite side. The tip of the needle must be inside the foam free chamber.

Tip
You may not succeed the first time. In that case, simply repeat the process.

6. Start refi lling the foam free chamber. The filling capacity of the colour (CLI-8) cartridges is approx. 6 ml. The filling capacity of the black (PGI 5) is approx. 12 ml.

When the foam-free chamber is filled, do not withdraw the syringe but release the remaining ink (approx. 4 ml) into the foam filled part of the cartridge.

To avoid ink leakage after fi lling, ensure that you do not overfi ll the foam by leaving the area around the ink outlet and the fi lling hole without ink.

Tip
The capacity of your cartridges is max 13 ml for CLI 8 cartridges/max. 26 ml for PGI 5 cartridge. It is highly unlikely that the cartridge is completely empty. Our experience suggests that CLI 8 cartridges will be sufficiently refilled with 10 ml and PGI 5 cartridge with 16 ml.

The fi ll hole does not require sealing.

General information
No cartridge cleaning is required when you use „Sudhaus refill systems“ because Sudhaus inks are formulated to enable a perfect mix with any original ink, remaining in the cartridge.
