General Interest

The intention of the Proceeds Of Crime Act 2002 ( POCA ) is to deprive convicted criminals of any financial benefit they have accrued through their crimes. This powerful legislation also allows us to successfully remove negative role models from society, keeping Hertfordshire a safe place to live, work and visit.

Hertfordshire constabulary are one of three Forces who now use Ebay auctions to realize the best value of goods seized from criminals who have had confiscation orders made against them following conviction for criminal matters.

These goods to the best of our knowledge are genuine and not stolen.

Funds raised  will either go back to the victims of crime as compensation or are distributed between the Home office the Prosecuting Force, the Court Service and the Crown Prosecution Service. Hertfordshire constabularies proportion is invested in local policing initiatives.

In order to keep costs to a minimum we have engaged volunteers to do the majority of the Ebay administration work.

In 2012/13 the Hertfordshire Constabulary Economic Crime unit secured in excess of 160 orders, instigated the collection of £600k for the victims of crime and a further 1.5 million from confiscation cases.

The forfeitures were as a result of investigations into fraud, theft, burglary, robbery, money laundering, brothel management and drug dealing.

We continue to maximise every opportunity to use the Proceeds of Crime Act to remove negative role models from the communities we live in. Your assistance is important in continuing this process.

All descriptions of sale items are as accurate as available information allows and all items offered for sale are done so in compliance with the ‘Sale of Goods Act 1979’.

It is Hertfordshire Constabularies policy to ‘Auction only ‘ in order to show that the fairest opportunity to obtain best value has been sought.

In the future we may also use this site to sell redundant technical equipment belonging to the Constabulary, the funds from which will be re-invested in the fight against crime. Such items will clearly described.
