About Us and Our Hats.

In 1906 Theodore Roosevelt wore one of our hats while visiting the Panama Canal construction site. His picture traveled around the world and his masterpiece became known as simple ‘The Panama Hat’.

In reality, authentic Panama Straw Hats are hand weaved here in Ecuador. The quality of the craftsmanship and straw, combined with weather and other factors, makes it impossible for the hats to be produced anywhere else.

The fact that we are in Ecuador and we know the best weavers and blockers of hats in the world allows us to provide you with an experience beyond just buying a hat. We custom pick each hat and inspect it to make sure you get the best of the best only. We have access to thousands of hats in all qualities for men, women and kids.

Our craftsmen take between one week to nine months to produce a single hat, depending of the thickness of the weave, using only the finest toquilla straw fibers available.  Some hats can even take well over a year to produce!

Now let’s take a few minutes to review some tips for the enjoinment of your hat and accessories.

As Soon as you Receive your Hat:

  • In case is needed due to shipping and handling issues, to restore your hat to its original shape, the brim of the hat can be ironed using a piece of cloth between the ironer set to hot and the hat. Press firmly and give the brim desired shape.

  • As for the crown, a few pinches in the right places will restore it, start from underneath the crown pinching up and pulling down and then from the outside with very gentle strength.

  • Please note that the balsa wood box should be considered a shipping tool only, the hat is not to be stored there except for very brief periods for traveling or the like.

About your Hat Bands:

In order for your hatband to fit perfectly you must try different positions, we make each hatband by hand and to fit your hat. Just as each hat is unique, so is the hatband, that’s the beauty of handmade treasures!

So once you are ready to enjoy one of your bands, and if you notice it is perfectly attached to the hat, try the following:

  • First, make the band is not inside out by looking at the bow or finished square, the place where the end of the patch meets should not be showing, that is, it should be the part that goes leaning to the crown of the hat.

  • Then try to flip it inside out or upside own until it fits the hat and doesn’t have any loosen edges.

  • Please note that on hats sized 61 or above, the hatband may need to be glued to the hat in order for it to fit with no edges. This is due to the angle between the crown and the brim, we do not like to sew hatbands for this could damage the crown and prevents you from enjoying different hatbands, while glue (school type) will allow you to do so and when you want to switch bands just pull it out gently and that’s it, change your bands. This process WILL NOT damage your hat.

How to Care for Your Hat:

Your hat can last for generations if you follow simple guidelines:

  • Do not fold or twist your hat in any way other than to store it temporarily for a trip or for protection and only do so if you are familiar with the method.

  • Handle the crown of the hat carefully at all times.

  • To remove any stains use a damp sponge with liquid soap.

  • Do not expose the hat to extreme conditions such as leaving it in a car directly under sunlight on a summer day as the straw could dry and become brittle.

  • To maintain the straw flexible, every now and then take your hat to the bathroom while you are taking a hot shower.

We strive to make sure all of our dear and respected customers enjoy the highest level of satisfaction, so if for whatever reason you are not 100% satisfied with your product, please contact us and we will work with you until your expectations are completely met.

We again thank you for the opportunity to serve you and look forward to fulfill your hat needs for years to come
