Weaved in Llano Style, a grade 45-51 In short, authentic Straw Panama Hat grades are determined by the finished quality of the hats and not by the model. A good analogy that helps us understand the hat grades is that one of gold. Gold can be found in its purest form (24k), there is also 22k, 18k, 14k, 10k…..all of them are gold BUT NOT of the same quality hence there is a huge price difference between them even though it looks the same for the untrained eye. Also an 18k bracelet made by a designer jeweler may be worth substantially more than an unknown jeweler piece. An acid test must be made in order to determine the pureness of the gold. Unless you are an expert or a connoisseur, a mere picture is not going to allow you to tell the difference between grades. So, in order to determine the value of a hat, we must take into account two main issues: The weave count: This is the amount of ‘passes’ the weaver made within any given area of the hat. This issue is of particularly importance for hats above the Ultra-Fino and Mili-Fino Grades. It is usually measure by the amount of weaves per square inch, there must be consistency in all of the main body of the hat. A Flawless hat: A hat with 2200 weaves per square inch that has defects on the body is not the same as a 2000 weaves per square inch hat that’s weaved perfectly even. Although the second hat has less weaves per sq inch, it will be pricier due to its flawlessness. Please feel free to contact us at any time should you have any questions, comments or concerns.
