| In order to choose
the right PC System/ Laptop for you – the right set of features at the right
price - you'll firstly need to think about how you want to use your machine. To
get started, and to avoid spending more money than necessary on a machine, match
your needs to one of these user profiles. * For information concerning abbreviations
of computer specifications, please see the ‘KEY’ within the stock

General Home Usage
You are looking for a laptop/ desktop in order to browse the
Internet/ shop online, send emails, transfer your favourite songs to your MP3
player, produce word processed documents or maybe to upload those digital photographs
from a recent break. Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo PC Systems are recommended. Look
for the following specifications:
CPU (Processor) - Only really important for
crunching numbers, but in terms of web browsing and other general home usage
tasks this is not of paramount importance. Look for 1GHz and above
Memory (RAM) - Measured in MB, a higher memory will increase
the speed in which you can conduct your tasks. We recommend at least 512MB for
general day to day usage.
Hard Drive - Your files and programs will all be stored on
the hard drive, 40GB of space is plenty
Optical Drives - (CD/DVD players/ rewriters)DVD means just
a DVD reader, DVDRW indicates a DVD Re-Writer (can burn DVD disks). If the description
states ‘DL’ this refers to ‘Dual Layer’ DVD burner which
is the latest and greatest shape.
Software - Microsoft Office or Microsoft Works (Home Editions),
Norton Antivirus 2007
Operating System - Microsoft XP Home
Networking Capability - WLAN indicates the Item has Wireless
Networking capability, LAN has networking capability (but not wireless)
Home Office Usage
You work from home, or often have to bring you work home with you. Internet
usage is also important, as is the ability to store large amounts of data on
your computer. For this purpose a Laptop may be more suitable due to increased
portability. Consider the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro series or the Fujitsu Siemens
Lifebook (premium/ professional line of notebooks/ laptops) in our range. Esprimo
and Scenic PC Systems are the business line of Fujitsu Siemens PC Systems.Look
for the following specifications:
CPU (Processor) - Only really important for crunching numbers,
but in terms of web browsing and other general home usage tasks this is not
of paramount importance. Look for 1GHz and above
Memory (RAM) - You need to be able to power multiple tasks
and therefore require a larger amount of memory than regular home users. We
recommend 1GB of memory
Hard Drive - You are likely to be storing large amounts of
data on your computer and uploading files regularly. 40 GB is fine, but 100
GB is more than enough space
Optical Drives - (CD/DVD players/ rewriters) DVD means just
a DVD reader, DVDRW indicates a DVD Re-Writer (can burn DVD disks). If the description
states ‘DL’ this refers to ‘Dual Layer’ DVD burner which
is the latest and greatest shape.
Software - Microsoft Office or Microsoft Works (Home Editions),
possibly Microsoft Money, Norton Antivirus 2007
Operating System - Microsoft XP Home, XP Professional would
provide advanced networking capabilities between your Home office and your Work
Networking Capability - WLAN indicates the Item has Wireless
Networking capability, LAN has networking capability (but not wireless).
Entertainment/ Multimedia Power
You require a computer to watch films, listen to and download music,
store lots of information or run numerous programs and facilitate your digital
photography hobby. We recommend looking within our Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo PC
System range for some of the ‘top end’ products at very competitive
prices.
CPU (Processor) - Due to the nature of your requirements, the
speed of the processors takes on increased importance in comparison to that
of general home usage for example. We recommend a processor of 3.0GHz and above.
Memory - (RAM) - 1GB upwards, but we find that most consumers
prefer 2GB+ as in many products this is offered with little difference in price.
Particularly useful in video/ picture editing.
Hard Drive - 100GB or more
Optical Drives (CD/DVD players/ rewriters) - DVD means just
a DVD reader, DVDRW indicates a DVD Re-Writer (can burn DVD disks). If the description
states ‘DL’ this refers to ‘Dual Layer’ DVD burner which
is the latest and greatest and offers 8GB plus capacity on each burned disc.
Software - Microsoft Office home edition, Norton Antivirus
2007
Operating System - Microsoft XP Home, you may also want to
consider Windows Media Centre Operating System for your photography or music/
video needs.
Networking Capability - WLAN indicates the Item has Wireless
Networking capability, LAN has networking capability (but not wireless).
Video Card - Due to your multimedia requirements and possibly
light gaming needs you may choose to look for either a PCI card (such as the
128MB Radeon 9800 Pro) or an AVG type card from NVIDIA.
Computer

Whether it is online gaming or a need for fast 3D games to be played
from your machine, you are likely to require a machine with specs upward of
the following.

or equivalent AMD Athlon 64 or Athlon XP

faster execution of programs or multiple numbers of programs. 2GB recommended

of hard drive space.

a DVD reader, DVDRW indicates a DVD Re-Writer (can burn DVD disks). If the description

2007 Operating SystemMicrosoft XP Home Edition

Blaster Audigy 4 Pro, which supports 16-bit audio and includes microphone, inputs
