Currency Conversion Explained
As I sometimes list on eBay sites in other countries, as well as eBay UK, an item you view may be in a different currency to your own. If you would like to buy the item, there is nothing more you need to do, other than go through the PayPal checkout, as usual. There is no need to hold a balance in a particular currency before sending payment.
You will pay in your own currency as Paypal will automatically convert your payment into the correct currency for the listing based on it’s daily exchange rate. The currency conversion rate will be displayed for your review before the payment is actually sent.
Ebay approximate the conversion amount for you which you can view on all listings (if you have chosen this option in your eBay settings) but if you would like to know exactly how much this will be before you buy you may find it helpful to use PayPal’s own currency converter, as this will be calculated at the exact rate – I have included the link below (you need to already be logged into Paypal for the link to work):
https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_convert-currency-generic
In the FROM field, enter the item price displayed on the listing (or another amount you want to convert) and in the drop down box enter the currency the item is listed in. Then select your own currency from the drop down box in the TO field and it will give you the current PayPal exchange rate.
If the above link doesn't work for you, type CURRENCY CONVERTER into the search box at the top right of the PayPal page (you must be logged in first), then select the CURRENCY CONVERTER-PAYPAL link.
If you don't yet have a PayPal account or would like to see answers to some commonly asked PayPal questions, I have included some useful information in the PAYMENT AND STOCK INFORMATION help page (link at the top of the page).
