Seed and bugle beads are always sold in grams - this is due to their small nature making it impossible to give an accurate bead count, some in the past have found this confusing, so here is a (very) rough guide to (approximate!) amounts! We sell mostly 20g (or multiples of 20g) so that is what all the figures are based on:
Size 11 Seeds - 20g approx 1750 beads
Size 6 Seeds - 20g approx 250 beads
Size 11 Hex Bugles - 20g approx 1600
6/7mm Bugles - 20g approx 600
We also often get asked about the sizing of seed beads and bugle beads - in a nutshell the size number given to the beads is the number of those beads that would fit into an inch when strung! The bigger the number the smaller the bead (and it's hole!!).
Nearly all of our beads and findings - with the exception of those sold in packs of 10, are weighed by digital scales. The scales we use are accurate to 0.1g, so there is usually little room for error - if you find that an error has been made in quantity, please let us know as soon as possible, and please understand that this human error does sometimes occur. We aim to send out all shortages within 24 hours of being notified, with the exception of holiday periods, which we will display details of through the shop!
On arrival you might find a small proportion of our headpins a little bent - this is due to the fact that they are sold in large quantities and they can lose shape in transit and is true of most of the headpins available (apart from the most expensive ones you can find!!). This can be easily rectified by running a pair of nylon jaw pliers along the length of the headpin, or by manipulating the bent section with pliers. If we were to straighten each headpin before dispatch we would need to charge about 5 times as much for them - this is just one of the joys of jewellery making!!
