| | There are several different types of lotion. Everyone tans differently so it is always trial and error to find what will work right for you. If you do not have a base tan it is recommended that you start with an accelerator first and once you have a base tan then use a bronzer. Hot tingle lotions are only recommended for experienced tanners. Here is a breakdown of the different types of lotions.
ACCELERATOR LOTION - Accelerators are usually used when first starting to tan or to build a base tan. They can also be referred to as Maximizers and Intensifiers. Maximizers and intersifiers are basically the same as an accelerator with a bit more results. These lotions are suitable for all stage tanners and skin types.
BRONZER LOTION - Bronzers help deliver instant color to the skin for a temporary cosmetic tan. A bronzer can either be a product that contains a temporary bronze tint that can be removed by showering or bathing(Stain/Streak-Free lotions) or it can be a product that contains a small percentage of DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), a self-tanning ingredient, that causes the skin to brown on the surface for up to as long as 8 days. Some tanning lotions contain both, which allows the bronzing tint to act like a guide for applying the lotion. It is recommended to wait at least 6 hours after tanning to shower for best results.
TINGLE OR HOT LOTION - This is usually referred to as a level 3 lotion for the most experienced tanners that have hit a tanning plateau or like to look red or burnt after tanning. These lotions contain chemicals that cause reddening and increased blood flow to the skin. WARNING! Tingle lotions can be uncomfortable for alot of people and some people are severely allergic (myself included). Over time you can build up a tolerance to it. This should not be used by people with sensitive skin. Test on a small patch of skin &wait about 10 minutes to see how your skin reacts.
WARMING LOTION - these lotions provide a slight warming sensation to the skin without the strong heat feeling and reddening you get from using a hot tingle lotion.
BLUSH LOTION- these lotions will give you the same affect as a tingle lotion without the discomfort of a tingle lotion.
COOLING LOTION- A lot of cooling lotions will also contain tingle. This will help tone down the extreme heat associated with the tingle. This type of lotion helps cool you during your tanning session. Most of these lotions contain Menthol which is what gives you the cooling sensation. |
