As a parent I was inevitably led to looking at the makeup of the toiletries we use on our children and the synthetic chemicals that seem to bombard us from every direction. It is alleged that the increase in allergies and cancers in the developed world is linked to this exposure. We are unable to remove all of these chemicals from our daily life but we can reduce it. As more people choose to eat an organic diet to avoid chemicals in their bodies, it seems appropriate that they would choose to do the same with products that they use on their bodies. The toiletries that we offer are mostly organic and do not contain any artificial fragrances, SLS/SLES's or parabens. The scents from these products are all from natural ingredients, giving you the benefit of the plants properties and not just the smell. Your body can absorb up to 60% of the chemicals which come into contact with your skin. This is beneficial if you are using aloe vera to soothe and moisturise, but not if you are exposing your skin to a cocktail of synthetic ingredients. Another way we can avoid unnecessary exposure to chemicals is by changing our cleaning habits. Avoid any products containing phosphates, enzymes, chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, 'parfum' and parabens, or any product which does not display its ingredients or give you an easy way to find out what they are. I am in the process of having my own handmade cold-processed soaps certified to conform to EU legislation. These will be available for sale soon! |
