Tobacco labels (particularly plug tobacco labels) were among the earliest attempts to create national brands. With the perfection of the lithographic process in the mid eighteen-hundreds these labels could be produced in color. The tobacco companies responded by employing some of the best artists in the country to produce scenes that promoted patriotism, classic literature, mythology and military subjects. We have taken these labels and enlarged them into a poster format. The results are quite stunning and make great decorations for home or office.
