The Hat Company was founded in 1999 by husband and wife team Andy and Julie Willder.
They opened their first store at Shrewsbury in October of that year. This first project met with great success and was followed by the opening of another store in Chester in November 2000.
In June 2003 the latest and largest store was opened in York.
The Hat Company is now firmly on the map as one of the UK’s leading hat retailers with over 50,000 hats in stock at any one time in any of their three stores, or at their warehouse facility
in Shropshire.
Through the summer months they specialise in ladies millinery with a vast collection of hats and head pieces from this country’s leading designers - hundreds of styles in every colour you could imagine. A bespoke service can be offered on some of the hat ranges where customers can choose the colour they want from charts provided by manufacturers. Feathers and fascinators can be dyed to any colour the customer desires, they just need to provide a swatch.
Only a small proportion of The Hat Company Millinery collection can be viewed on this site which they are happy to supply via the Web, but there is no better way to buy than by a personal visit to one of their stores, where their trained staff are on hand to help and advise with colour and style.
When Autumn comes their ranges change. Sinamay and straw is replaced with felts, velvets and faux fur. A vast array of funky fleece and ski-wear by Zepla, Serious and Arctic Fox along side traditional furs and felts by Whiteley, Balfour and Nigel Rayment and knitted products from Dents, Kusan and Kangol.
Men are never left out at The Hat Company. All year round they stock Top Hats, Bowlers, Trilbys and Fedoras in a range of qualities to suit all budgets. Panama Hats, Boaters and the ever lasting Tilley Hat can be purchased at any time of the year. Leather and suede hats from South Africa and Australia are always available along with the famous Akubra in a variety of styles. Lastly but by no means least, they stock a range of Tweed hats in many traditional styles, County Caps, Baker Boys, Sherlocks, Stalkers, Down-Brim and Snap-Brim Trilbys they also provide some of those same styles in waxed cotton should the weather dictate.
A serious hat buyer cannot afford to miss a visit to this website or a visit to one of The Hat Company’s
three stores.
