Hi, and welcome to my shop!

The Gift Shop started life as Lava Lamps UK, which started out as a hobby - collecting lava lamps - which became a bit of an obsession, which then turned into a business.   What is it about these lovely things that makes us gawp at them for hours on end?  Or is that just me?!?

My private collection, at the last count, was about forty or so.  I'm not a brand snob, but I do love those Mathmos Jets, and hunting them down has become a bit of an obsession!! I've also been known to buy unusual lamps from as far away as Australia and the USA.

So...for about 18 months, I ran Lava Lamps UK in my spare time, in a spare bedroom, whilst running a home and working full time at a paid job, until I 'got the calling' to have a go at making it a proper, full time business.  That's when the name changed to The Gift Shop, and the stock broadened tremendously - as you can see if you browse the eBay shop!Biggest thing so far was taking on premises at the start of 2010, and quitting my paid job in April...quite scary as bills have to be paid, but thanks to lots of love and support from friends, family and loyal customers, it's well on the way to being self sufficient.  So thanks, all of you...you know who you are!  ;)

OK, what shall I tell you about me?    I'm errr...over 21...don't you know it's rude to ask a lady her age?...and married to Simon, a rampant music and hi-fi equipment addict (when he's not being a smart suited businessman), been married for three years and looking forward to many more.  I have two wonderful stepsons of 16 and 18, and Simon and I share two equally wonderful and somewhat bonkers dogs, whose arrival forced a complete rearrange of everything breakable in the house...so now I have some very attractive and very high-up lava lamp displays...!!

Interests apart from lava lamps?   Well I do have some, though not much time to indulge in them these days, thanks to you lovely people keeping me busy.   I collect model horses, mainly Breyer (I'm actually a qualified riding instructor), and I also paint, and indulge in nature photography.  If I'm too knackered to do anything to active, I'm happy playing Scrabble or backgammon, or watching films or stand up comedy DVDs.
