"The Marshall Thompson Personal Family Collection" was created to honor the talented work in film and television of both Marshall Thompson and Richard Long.  Their lives became entertwined initially through a tragedy. The outcome, however, became a great Hollywood family story.  Their lives illustrate the best times of the "big studios" of the 1940's and 1950's and touched many of the most famed stars of that time.  The purpose of this Collection is to enhance the appreciation for their individual and family legacy and to thank their fans for keeping their memories alive.

Marshall Thompson had a very esteemed career with MGM.  One of his finest films was "Battleground" in 1949 and his legacy of being the "good guy" in many war films was highlighted by his devotion to Africa and it's wildlife.  His career was the most satisfying when he starred in  "Daktari"  the CBS hit television show in the 1960's.  And after that, he worked on many, many projects in support of African Wildlife earning him a legion of lifetime fans around the world.

Elizabeth Taylor and Marshall Thompson became friends when she was just 15 years old when she was also signed by MGM.  Her parents were very close with Thompson's parents. As a result, during her rise to emormous fame, she always had a buddy in Marshall.  They stayed close.  Thompson's wife, Barbara became a close ally in the 1950's.  She was one of Elizabeth's bridesmaids in her wedding to Nick Hilton in 1950 and reamined a close confident for many years.
