| Caring for your rugs
1. Sweeping the rug with a broom at least once a week removes loose soil and brings out it's natural sheen. Vacuum regularly. Try to use a low suction level and a new bag. Never vacuum against the nap, as this presses dirt back into the rug. (Run your hand across the pile from fringe to fringe to determine the direction of the nap.) Do not vacuum the fringes. The suction of a powerful vacuum cleaner can tear the fringe.
2. Please note the biggest 'enemy' of a carpet or rug is GRIT which if left can work its way down to the bottom of the pile. Therefore an occasional airing outside and gentle shake upside down will assist in opening the pile and allowing grit to drop out. This will also go some way to revitalising the pile Beating is one of the best methods for cleaning a rug. It should be beaten several times on each side, always in dry weather.
3. In the event of spillage, blot (DO NOT rub) pile with a soft absorbent cloth.
4. Frequently rotate your rugs to equalize the damaging effects of the sun. Continual direct exposure to sunlight will damage a rug over time so use window shades, blinds or heavy curtains to safeguard your investment.
5. Revive carpet pile that has been crushed by heavy furniture by brushing the indented area with a soft brush. Moisten with a spray bottle, and brush again.
6. For overall cleaning professional cleaning recommended
7. The life of a expensive rug can be doubled with the use of good-quality padding. Padding protects the rug, especially in heavily-trafficked areas. The best padding is made of hair or natural fibre with a rubberized surface to prevent moving and wrinkling. Avoid synthetic padding that takes on the appearance of rubber as it turns to an abrasive powder after several years.
Looking after your Flokati rug.
Cleaning your rug is very simple.
1. If your flokati is not very dirty, it can be shaken and brushed, as dirt and dust do not cling to flokati wool fibres.
2. If more dirty, first shake your flokati outdoors so that the dust comes off. Then hand-wash using the mildest of soaps designed for wool products in very small quantities, in cold or lukewarm water.
3. Please note that high water temperatures and chlorine bleach as well as dry cleaning must be avoided as they destroy the natural protective surface of the wool.
4. After letting continuously running water rinse the flokati for a short time, it must then be left out to dry on a line.
5. Because of the high built-in lanolin content, flokatis are highly resistant to dirt and stains and clean very easily.
6. When dry, the flokati can be brushed or left as is with its new, fresh fluffiness.
7. Washing a flokati rug or product properly does not damage the rug but merely enhances its uniquely inviting quality, appearance and touch. |
