Ronnies Rough Guide to Archery Bows

Traditional
A one-piece archery bow made out of wood, supplied in youths and adult versions. Shot with wooden arrows. Ideal for people wanting to try out archery in it's most basic form.

Recurve
These bows are normally in take-down form, consisting of a handle and two limbs. They come in a variety of sizes and draw weights to suit archers of all ages and abilities. Most archery beginners courses will use wooden handle recurve bows, and at the other end of the scale it is the bow used in the Olympics, complete with sophisticated sights and stabilisation.

Compound
Introduced by the hunting fraternity in the states, the compound is growing in popularity throughout the world. It utilises cams at the limb ends and cables to minimise the holding weight at full draw, which enables much heavier bows to be shot with accuracy and consistency. This type of bow is normally shot with a release aid, and will comprise peep sights on the string and a sighting scope.
