"Woven" Fused Glass Trivet ~ Easy First Project

Materials & Supplies

  • One six by six inch piece of clear fusing glass
  • Two three by six inch pieces of glass in coordinating colors
  • Glass Cutter
  • Cork Backed Ruler
  • Running Pliers
  • GlasTac or similar product
  • Graph Paper, Morton Surface

Step One Prepare Your Glass

Cut a six by six inch piece of clear standard thickness fusing glass.  We used all Spectrum 96 for this project.

Now cut five 1/2" by six inch strips in each of the coordinating colors.

Using the clear piece of glass as a base, place five strips across.  To acheive a "woven look" after fusing, make sure to alternate your colors.

Hint: If using a ruler, the center strip hits the center of the 3" line. The others your can probably "eyeball".

Glue them into place using GlasTac or similar product.

Now place strips going the other way.  Glue in place and allow to dry.

Step Two Prepare For Kiln Firing

Cut a piece of ThinFire shelf paper a couple inches larger than your project.  Place that on your elevated kiln shelf.

Place your project in the center of your kiln and fire to a full fuse "bubble squeeze", according to manufacturer's instructions. For Spectrum 96, use the firing schedules below.

Step Three ~ Enjoy

Remove your project from the kiln. Attach rubber feet on all four corners. Enjoy! This project is dishwasher and food safe.
