What is Pex?
PEX is composed of high-density polyethylene that undergoes a physically
or chemically induced molecular change. This change creates polymer
chains which are linked to form a three dimensional network producing
a thermoplastic product. This creates a product that is stable at
higher temps yet remains flexible and chemically resistent to damage.
Why use
O2 barrier pipe (EVOH Pipe)?
The O2 barrier
keeps the oxygen from corroding your hydronic systems ferrous materials
such as you would find in circulation pumps and boilers. It cost
a bit more than non-barrier PEX, however it's well worth the extra
cost. All residential and light commercial radiant floor systems
should be installed with O2 Barrier pipe.
What is
Pex-al-Pex?
PEX-AL-PEX
pipes, or PEX/Aluminum/PEX, are made of a layer of aluminum sandwiched
between two layers of PEX. The metal layer serves as an oxygen barrier,
same as EVOH pipe. It also maintains its shape when bent into curves,
making installation much quicker and easier.
