| MEASURING
Each clothing designer/manufacturer has different guidelines for which they measure and design clothing. Historically these guidelines change, vintage standards ( as inconsistent as they are) are often much different than today, even season to season Designers change them. A size 4 Banana Republic can be different from 2002 or 2010.
Please pay attention to the actual measurements of the clothing as opposed to the SIZE on the label. Compare these measurements to something that fits you well. How things fit is also individual, some like it snug others loose, its all upto the individual .
The way we measure:
On the garment laying flat. Edge to edge or seam to seam as specified. Most are taken front side only and you need to double for all the way around. Length is taken in back base of neckline to bottom.
Lay your garment flat on table.
For tops measure across shoulders sleeve seam to sleeve seam, across at under arms edge to edge at widest point, shoulder seam to cuff and turn it over base of neckline to bottom for length.
For Pants: across at waist pulled taught and double for around waist, across at hips widest point edge to edge , inseam is center crotch seam to cuff along the inside part of pant leg, outseam is the outer side of pant leg from waistband to cuff, rise is taken in front from center crotch seam to top iof waistband in center.
