  • Glossary of Terms

The Following is a list of Terms, Phrases and other stuff I use on this site.
  • 24 Hours. I ship within 24 hours of getting your Confirmed Paypal Payment before 2100 Eastern Time Zone. Unless that 24 hour period falls on a Sunday or Holiday, then it will go go the next day. People seem to like this. I'm an ebay buyer too ! It always ticks me off when I pay for something and then find out from the shipping label that the seller did not mail my purchase until several days later.
  • ??????. That is what you see when I was typing in Japanese. I did not find out until much later that ebay does not support Japanese Script. You will see this sometimes in the titles and description.
  • Action Figures. These are figures that are jointed. Usually allowing you to move the legs and/or arms.
  • Bathing, Bath, Hot Bath. Bathing a figure is when you drop the parts you want to straighten out into a bowl or dish of boiling water. This is the best way to straighten out legs, arm and weapons that just won't stay straight. Best method is to place boiling water is a bowl and them drop the part in you want to straighten. Remove it after 10 secs and while holding it in the position you want, put it under running cold water. This works 99% of the time. This method is also great for getting parts to fit.
  • Bish0jo. A Bish0jo game (or Girl game, Gal game): is for all purposes a Dating Sim game involving pretty anime girls. The Japanese word "bish0jo" literally means "pretty young girl".
  • Blister Packaging. Blister Packaging is clear plastic packaging used for the US market Only. In Japan, almost all Trading Figures are sold in sealed boxes. You never know what you will get until you open the box. In Hong Kong and Thailand, they still use closed box packaging, but the figure you will get is clearly marked.
  • Delivery Confirmation. All Domestic deliveries are sent with Delivery Confirmation. This is a Confirmation of Delivery provided by the USPS of deliveries made to you. The same goes for Fedex-Ground.
  • Doujinshi. Doujinshi are self-published Japanese or English works, usually manga or novels. They are often the work of amateurs, though some professional artists participate as a way to publish material outside the regular industry. Groups of doujinshi artists refer to themselves as a circle.Doujinshi are made by artists or writers who prefer to publish their own materials. Avid fans of doujinshi attend regular doujinshi conventions, the largest of which is called Comiket (short for "Comic Market") held in the summer and winter in Tokyo's Big Sight. If you ever get the chance to attend, I strongly recommend mid-week. The attendance lines on Saturday have been know to stretch over a mile ( Sorry ! Not kidding) Here, over 20 acres of d?jinshi are bought, sold, and traded by attendees. Doujinshi creators who based their materials on other creators' works normally publish in small numbers to maintain a low profile from litigation. This makes a talented creator's or circle's doujinshi a coveted commodity as only the fast or the lucky will be able to get them before they sell out.

  • Ecchi. Ecchi as an adjective can be translated as lewd or sexy, while as a verb it can be translated as sexual intercourse. In English, the word is often used in the context of manga and anime. The term ecchi is applied to anime or manga that has vague sexual content (such as skimpy clothing, partial or full nudity), but does not show sexual intercourse.

The ecchi art style is loosely comparable to pin-up girl artwork, as well as to provocative fantasy and comic book art in the United States and other countries. Typical features include:

    • Clothing that outlines the shape of the breasts, nipples, and labia, suggesting tightness of clothing and arousal.
    • Uniforms, costumes, or outfits that may be provocative, but are worn as everyday clothing by the character.
    • The common gag that is usually pulled off in anime, the "head in breasts gag" that is commonly used when a male meets a busty female and falls into her cleavage.
    • Characters who are unaware of their sexuality, appear innocent and cheerful, or sly and mischievous.
    • Clothing that is falling off or being pulled off, notably swimsuits and "sailor"-style schoolgirl uniforms.
    • Upskirt panty shots and cleavage.
    • Exaggerated sexual attributes, often on normal or petite figures to give a sense of contrast. Especially used in d?jinshi and fanart, where a character may appear more sexualized than normal.
    • Cute or innocent character with obvious sexual appearance or clothing.
    • The occasional bare breast(s), but no nudity below the navel or vaginal slit is included on female model.
    • Skimpy bathing suits with crotch lines showing and sides of breasts showing.
  • Free Stuff. This is samples. Yes, they are free. I don't always send samples. Normally when I send a package Priority Mail or by Fedex-Ground, I will include samples. Both these shipping methods are determined by weight increments of 1 lb. So I have I have room to play with when a package weighs, say, 1 lb 8 oz. Free Samples are yours to keep, even if you return the original, keep the samples. I choose the samples, so I will send whatever I have at that time. Hopefully you will like what I sent and buy more and that won't be free.

  • Gashapon. Gashapon are "capsule toys." The word itself suppose to represent the two sounds that the machine makes when you put your coin in it, "gacha" for the turning of a crank on the vending machine, and "pon" for the sound of the toy capsule makes dropping into the receptacle. Or at least that's what they say. Gashapon machines are similar to the coin-operated toy vending machines seen outside of grocery stores and other retailers in the US. While American coin-operated vending toys are usually cheap, low-quality junk, sold for a quarter or 50 cents, Japanese Gashapon can cost anywhere from 100 - 500 yen (Equal to $1–$5 US) and are normally a much higher quality product. They are often constructed from high-grade PVC plastic, and contain more molding detail and carefully painted features. In addition, these are not simply toys: they are collector's items, with rare ones fetching extremely high prices. I find people are always surprised to learn that most Anime Figures are sold by this method in Japan. Most Gashapon need to be assembled.
  • Insert Boards. Insert Boards are the Art Boards that they use to advertise Gashapon in the Machines. The Insert will typically show all the pieces in the collection and give a black colored outline of the secret figure. These boards, along with their Promotional Board counterparts are starting to become collector items by themselves.
  • Manga. Japanese Comics. Read Right to left. I give these out as samples to. I get a lot of sample manga from Tokyo-Pop, Viz Media and ThaiCard.
  • NIB is New in Box. The figure is new and unused.
  • Open Box Item. I opened the Box. Normally I do anyways, I always check to make sure than everything is in there that is suppose to be. Quality control is a big problem for most of these companies.
  • Otome Game. An otome game is a video game that is targeted towards a female market, where the basic goal is to develop a romantic relationship between the player character (a female) and one of several male characters.
  • Promotional Boards. Promotional Boards, a.k.a. Pencil Boards, Cutter Boards and Mini Boards (there are probably a few other names I have not mentioned) are hard plastic boards that are used by Anime and Promotional Companies to advertise upcoming, current and past Anime Series, Characters or Products. These Boards started out as Cutting Boards. They were just big enough for Japanese School bags and the kids were allowed to bring them to school. The original ones had rulers on the back and conversion charts and the plastic was thick enough to handle a razor. It was a cool way for kids to show support for there favorite Anime Series or Character.
  • PVC Statues. A larger, more detailed Anime Figure. Most Gashapon are around 10 cm tall (about 4 inches). Statues tend to be in the 13-22 cm range, but can be as small as 10-14 cm. The majority of Statues are one piece construction. Most offer better detail than their Gashapon counterparts.
  • Sega Prize. These are Statues that are only available through the Gaming Arcades. A lot of pieces are moved in this fashion and are only available as arcade prizes. In Japanese Gaming Arcades, you will be hard pressed to find someone under 14 years. These Arcades cater mainly to adults.

  • Shaving. Shaving is the fine art, if you want to call it that, of using a small drill, like a Dremel, and slowly shaving/sanding off the clothes of an anime figure. Sounds funny, but some serious Hentai artists have made a lot of money doing just this.
  • Trading Cards. Trading Cards, are usually advertisement cards that were either given out or included with Trading Figures. It is a cheap way for Anime Companies to advertise an upcoming product or existing Anime Series.
  • Trading Figures. Trading Figures are the same as Gashapon figures, just different packaging. Trading Figures are packaged in a box. In Japan, most Anime Series that have more than one main character are sold in, " Closed Boxes," in this case you cannot see what you got until you have opened the box.  In other markets, such as: USA, Europe, Hong Kong and Thailand. The boxes are marked with the specific figure inside. Many figures may start out in the Gashapon stage and them end up as a Trading Figure, this also goes the other way. Like Gashapon figures, most Trading Figures need to be assembled.
  • Yaoi. Yaoi is a publishing genre which focuses on male/male homosexual relationships and is marketed at females. The genre originated in Japan and encompasses manga, anime, novels and doujinshi. In Japan, this genre is called "Boys' Love" or simply "BL", and "yaoi" as a genre name is mostly used by western fans. Soft Yaoi refers to male/male relationships (storys) without sex.

  • Measurements. This is a sticky issue for some people. I round up all measurements of the figures. Most collectors, myself included, display our collections in display cases (8,000+ in my cases). When a figure is 9.3 cm high, I'll mark it 10 cm. I try to mention anything that is out of the norm, such as swords or other weapons that can add considerable height or width to a figure. If the height is determined by the position of the piece I will mention it: prone, kneeling, or standing.

  • Garage Kits. These are figure models that are usually made of of resin and need to be assembled and painted. These kits are not cheap and require a huge amount of patience and skill. The completed models sell easily in the $100+ range. I acquired the Love Hina Onsen Scene (shown below) in 2003 for $300.

  • Angel Tested.  This is reference to the old days when Shuisea S. used to bring her 5 year old daughter Tsubasa along on trips to the states from Japan. At that time we had a English Bulldog named " Angel. " Tsu would play all day long with Angel, dressing her up, trying to teach her Japanese words and acting out a tea ceremony were some of the more memorable acts. The boxes we used to use, were flimsy and we relied on bubble wrap to protect the pieces. Angel, for whatever reason like to sit on the boxes and with her 70+ lbs crush them. After testing out several different mailing boxes, we settled with ULINE's Indestructo Mailers. It was one day, and with Tsu's limited English, that she blurted out, " these boxes Angel tested, " no matter how long Angel sat on them, they did not crush.
