My name is Magalie and I was born in French speaking Quebec Canada. After having two children before I had turned 20, I followed my childhood passion and studied at the Collège LaSalle in Montreal as a fashion designer. After finishing fashion design college I got married again, and moved to Northern Vermont with my two young children to be with my new husband, l'amour de ma vie Bennett.
In 1994 I opened a designs store called Fashion By Magalie and created and sewed a wide range of fashions, clothing, and accessories for my customers. After a few years, I realized that running a retail business was really not for me. Just as I was closing my store, a very high end Summer Resort asked me to design a line of cloth dolls (a long time dream of the owner of the resort who had seen my work) and I spent two years on that project and was happy with the dolls I created.
In 1999 I discovered Gene Marshall, and eBay Auctions... I knew that my childhood passion of designing for dolls was about to bloom into a full time job.
I've been designing for various dolls for thirteen years now, and I truly love what I do. Since the birth of our son Lionel (March of 2006), and with my youngest children through college and married, I've been able to focus on creating only the finest couture and fashion patterns for a smaller number of dolls. The SD13 line of BJDs is just fantastic for a fashion designer, as is the Ellowyne Wilde line from Tonner. Recently, the 14 inch Chrysalis girls from Helen Kish have really captured my imagination.
I am always happy to answer questions about my patterns or my designs.
