STERLING SILVER CHAINS

Pure silver is a precious metal, which can be found in various locations around the world. Pure silver however cannot be used in jewellery, crafts, crafts or tableware for example as the material is to soft. To enable the silver to be used in these circumstances it needs to be combined with another base alloy metal usually copper. The most common ratio between silver and the alloy is 92.5 % Silver to 7.5% alloy hence the 925 hallmark. Other ratios are used 90% / 10% however this reduces the amount of silver used making the items less valuable.

All of Markylis chains are manufactured within the EU under strict legislation and are stamped 925. There are a number of fake sterling silver chains available on numerous sites, which can be almost impossible to identify unless you take the chain to your local jeweller. The best way to identify a fake is by the price. If the price looks too cheap then there is a distinct possibility that the chain is made from outside the EU using other materials, which could be harmful to your skin (such as Lead & Nickel).
