Only the Emperor, his close relations and his dignitaries of the highest rank were authorized for the use of silk. For more than 2000 years the Chinese tightly guarded the secrets of this most exquisite of fabrics but eventually knowledge did spread.
Today, pure silk bedding remains a most splendid luxury and although produced across both Asia and Europe, that from China is arguably still the finest. 100% pure silk adapts to changes in temperature and contains no harmful trace chemicals.
