WHERE ARE WE
Our studio is located in a traditional, granite-built cottage on the northern periphery of Aberdeen City. Here, we have the best of both worlds: the convenience of the city, but also the beautiful countryside of north-east Scotland. There are miles of beautiful beaches, forests and mountains within easy reach, which provide not only a great deal of our raw materials, but also fuel our artistic inspiration. In Aberdeenshire, we are immersed in diverse cultural, linguistic and artistic traditions with influences stemming from ancient Pictish and Celtic, through traditional rural Doric, to those emerging from a modern, urbanized landscape. But despite this diversity, there is a strong sense of continuity here in the north-east and a vibrant enthusiasm for the preservation and celebration of these cultural traditions, which is all-embracing.
As a design team, we have therefore, a diversity of landscapes, whether physical or cultural, to work with and to be inspired by!
ABOUT THE DESIGNERS
Libertini’s two designers, Kath McGurn and Lilian Bruce are both native east-coasters and come, originally, from small fishing communities. We have grown up with a strong sense of place and an awareness of both familial and Scottish cultural heritage, which fuelled our interest in the literature, history and artistic culture of Scotland from an early age. We have academic backgrounds in Scottish Literature, History and Celtic studies and a collective interest in art and design. Our starting point for the studio was a drive to express aspects of history, culture and landscape in artistic form and it was from this heady mixture that Libertini was born!
WHY LIBERTINI?
Libertini in Latin means ‘free people’. For many years we held highly challenging nine to five careers, but longed to work within a creative environment and to run our own business. Ultimately, we made the break, did both and have become ‘free people’.
OUR PRODUCTS
We specialize in producing original, affordable design. Our products include artworks, jewellery, decorative and functional items. One of our main materials is driftwood and we believe that we were the first to produce driftwood jewellery, certainly on eBay, tentatively in the world! Driftwood not only has a natural beauty, but also a natural history which makes it an ideal medium for our artistic aims. It could have visited anywhere on the planet, borne witness to different cultures and civilizations, before being rescued by Libertini from its never-ending travels and used within an artwork! We also use natural stone, shell, seaweed and recycle many beach finds, all of which naturally reflect aspects of our landscape. In addition, we use both reclaimed and new metals such as copper, brass and stainless steel in many of our creations.
Many items we use are, however, purchased new. These include all of our jewellery findings, chains and thongs and we source these from reputable suppliers who deal only in quality metals which meet the EU low nickel directives. (See Libertini's terms and conditions) We also only use new electrical fittings, which fully comply with CE legislation in our lamp-making.
OUR ETHICS
We have a strong commitment to using recycled and natural materials in our products along with a long standing respect for nature and an interest in conservation. Also, on a lighter note, as true Scots we hate to see waste! We make extensive use of recycled packaging and we are helped out by local businesses with donations of boxes and packing materials. This allows us to invest in non-reusables such as good quality outer packaging, bubble wrap and lots of strong parcel tape! As a result, we can keep our P&P prices competitive, dispatch well packaged items to our customers and benefit the environment at the same time.
"Customer service is our priority, customer satisfaction our goal".
This is the studio's motto and we have a proud commitment to fulfilling it in every instance.
· We operate a no quibble refund policy (see Libertini's terms and conditions) and aim to dispatch our goods within two working days of receiving cleared payment.
· We email our customers when their item has been dispatched and, if they choose Recorded Delivery, provide the tracking number for their reference. In the event of any problem or dissatisfaction, we will strive to negotiate directly with the customer and to resolve any issues to everyone's satisfaction.
· We strongly believe that negative feedback and the opening of a dispute should be a last, not a first resort and that most problems can be resolved by open and honest communication. Unlike many sellers on eBay we do not wait for your feedback before giving you ours. We will give our buyers positive feedback provided that they have paid for their item promptly (see Libertini's terms and conditions) and all we ask is the same in return if customers are satisfied with their purchase.
