Furniture Care
- Wooden Furniture Characteristics: When timber is felled it loses its natural source of moisture. During production the internal moisture of the wood is reduced and with further exposure to sunlight and summer temperatures moisture will be further reduced. As a result the wood may shrink a little and cracks may appear, but it will not affect its strength. This is to be expected as timber is a natural source. This is quite normal and tolerances have been allowed over manufacture to compensate for this change. Your regular care and maintenance will minimize these movements and keep your purchase in excellent condition.
- Your furniture has been treated with a protective coating of oil which will give it initial protection. However, when hardwood furniture is exposed to the sun's UV rays and rain, both of which will cause the appearance to dull and weather.
To maintain the natural beauty of your furniture we recommend that you maintain the appearance by applying our hardwood oil regularly, or by using Ronseal Hardwood Furniture Stain. Only use the clear version which is available at most DIY stores. We recommend you remove any surface dirt by finely sanding the surfaces with 'wet and dry' paper, first ensuring the product is dry, then apply as per the instructions on the tin. This will protect the furniture and help keep the original appearance. This will need applying every season.
We would also suggest storing the furniture in a dry cool shed, away from direct sunlight, when not in use. This will also help to maintain the original appearance.
If you do not maintain the furniture surface cracks will appear and the colour will fade, eventually turning to a silver grey colour.
