Shipping Policy
Customer shipping satisfaction is important to us and in our view
involves three aspects:
- Prompt shipping
- Safety
- Known cost and low
cost with U.S. combined shipping discount
Prompt Shipping - I try to ship the day after payment is received
and in almost all cases I will ship within two days unless I happen to be
out of town or some other unusual circumstance arises. If you check my
feedback, you will almost certainly see many, many compliments for fast
shipping.
Safety - I generally use a bubble wrap envelope with cardboard protection
when I think such protection is needed. I have found this method to be
quick and safe and cannot recall the last time someone had a problem with
shipping damage. If I deem it necessary, I will use box material or
fluted paper to be on the safe side.
Cost - In order to maintain efficiency so that I can keep
opening prices down, I have decided to use a fixed shipping and handling
cost for Media Mail (book rate), which does not depend on distance. The S&H
cost includes materials, which normally involve bubble-wrap,
envelope, tape, labels, etc. I naturally try to use a fixed cost that
covers my postage and material cost – most of the time I do and
sometimes I actually spend more than the amount received. Media Mail
normally takes from 4 days to 8 days, but since it has lower priority, it
can sometimes be longer - much longer. Except for the unusual case,
though, I have found Media Mail ship time to be satisfactory. If
you have a special mailing request, such as a need for Priority shipping,
I will try to accommodate you. For very expensive books or very heavy books, I may use a more
tailored policy such as requiring insurance, delivery confirmation,
priority mail, etc. However, I will only use the U.S. Post Office as the
carrier.
For International shipping, I also have a fixed cost, nominally $12.90 ($10.90 Canada)which is for International priority mailing. Shipping time can be 3 or 4 days to several weeks. For some reason, shipping to Australia can take longer than expected. If a book weighs over four pounds, I will
generally prohibit International orders since the shipping cost can be so
high. Because of the relatively high cost of International shipping, I
will not accept returns, so books are sold as-is for International.
Please do not bid if that is not acceptable. I will also fill out any
necessary custom forms honestly, so please do not ask me to do otherwise.
Combined Orders- For U.S. sales I offer a discount for combined
shipping – typically, one-half the cost for the lower S&H cost
item(s). So, if you buy two books, with stated S&H cost of $4.00 and
$3.00, the total shipping will not be greater than $5.50. For
International sales, I normally do not offer combined discounts since
weight factors make it unlikely that mailing costs can be reduced
To summarize - I have a great deal of experience in
shipping books and have evolved a method that keeps costs down and
provides high assurance that you will receive your book in a safe and
timely manner.
