| HAEMATITE VS MAGNETIC HAEMATITE
Much jewellery being sold as haematite (often spelt hematite) is in fact made from synthetic, or reconstituted, haematite. This manufacturing process results in a material that is in every way virtually identical to natural haematite but much easier to form into detailed shapes. The same healing properties are attributed to the synthetic form as to the natural form.
Natural haematite is naturally weakly magnetic - referred to as ‘soft’ magnetism. Basically, although it will react to a magnet it may not otherwise be immediately obvious that it is magnetic. The exact type and degree of magnetism in natural haematite is variable and can be affected by temperature. This very different manifestation of magnetism sets natural haematite apart from many other magnets used for bio-magnetic therapy.
What is sold as magnetic haematite is in fact simulated haematite which has been deliberately magnetised. One advantage of magnetising it for jewellery is that the polarisation can be organised so as to form magnetic clasps or allow two pieces to be joined. Naturally the therapeutic benefits will vary from one individual to another but many of our customers have reported significant relief from wearing magnetic haematite |
