Every bicycle purchased from Discount Bicycles is delivered fully tuned. By this we mean that the gears, brakes, crank set, chain, and all major moving parts have been adjusted perfectly, and do not require any further setting up.

In order to fit your bicycle into it's delivery box, we may have had to do one or more of the following; Remove front wheel, Remove pedals, adjust handlebars to 90 degree position, or remove handle bar from stem.

Below is a simple guide to help you reassemble your bike

Reinstall Front Wheel

Reinstallation is extremely simple and should take only a matter of seconds.

To do this ensure that the quick release skewer is in the wheel axle. Position the wheel squarely in the fork jaws.

Hold one side of the quick release skewer, and turn the other end clockwise until finger tight.

Lock the skewer by pushing it up or down to secure the wheel

Finally push the two arms of the brake together and slot the metal section of the cable into the mount provided.

Reinstall Pedals

Reinstallation is very simple and should take no longer than 1 minute.

The pedals are labelled L and R respectively on the end of the screw in thread. The Right and Left refer to the foot you would use.

Simply screw the pedals in by hand at first, and then tighten with a 15mm spanner..

Please ensure that you screw the pedal in squarely, and not at an odd angle. Do not force the pedal in

Please note the right foot pedal screws in clockwise, and the left foot pedal screws in anti clock wise.

Disc Brake Bedding-in Period

Please note, any owners of Disc brake bikes. Your brakes will make a scraping sound until fully bedded in. This is normal. Bedding in period should be about 6 hours of continuous use.

Avid Mechanical Disc Brake
Re-Adjust handlebar Stem to Correct Riding Position

Reinstallation is extremely simple and should take no longer than 1 minute

Simply position the handlebars and forks to the correct riding position. Ensure that the forks are facing in the correct direction. If in doubt consult the picture of your bike on our website.

If your bike features an A-headset system, simply position the handle bars, and then tighten the bolts on the side of the stem with the tool provided. Do not tamper with the bolt on the top of he stem.

If your bike features a quill type stem, simply position the handlebars in the correct riding position, and tighten the bolt on the top of the stem with a 6mm Allen key tool.

Please ensure that the brake and gear cables are running free, and are not wrapped awkwardly around the handlebars.

What is the difference between a tuned and an untuned bicycle?

Discount Bicycles would like to make it categorically clear that un-tuned bikes require proper set up and are definitely not ready to ride. It is a false economy to buy an untuned bike unless you have both the correct tools and in-depth knowledge and experience of bicycle assembly.

Bicycles are supplied to our workshops from the factory in a raw un-tuned condition. We then fully assemble them, tune the gears brakes bottom bracket, headset and all the parts. Each bicycle is then tested on rollers and then subject to a 28 point safety check before being boxed and then shipped to the customer. This means that you do not have to assemble your bicycle from 100s of bits out of a box, and you can relax knowing that your bike has been 'Post factory' tested, is roadworthy, and that the warranty is complete and valid.

The main assembly procedure consists of the following.
  • Adjustment of all bearing assembly
  • Installation and adjustment of front & rear brakes
  • Adjustment of front and rear gear mechanisms
  • Torque adjustment of bottom bracket
  • Ensuring correct tyre pressure
  • Checking frame alignment
  • Adjustment of headset
  • Safety sealing of all cable ends
  • Truing of front & rear wheels.

Beware of the growing number of companies on the internet offering you bicycles at heavily reduced prices. These firms are often not bicycle shops, but usually consist of one person with a computer, who simply takes your card details and then arranges the delivery of un-tuned bikes direct from the factory to you. These companies often mislead you about the condition your bicycle will arrive in. Please be clearly advised. The warranty on any bicycle from any manufacturer is only valid after it has been assembled by a qualified cycle mechanic. As far as we are aware, Discount Bicycles Limited is the only discount company that sets up bicycles for use prior to dispatch.
