For use with non-hot fix crystals
Gem-Tac Permanent Adhesive
For gluing Swarovski crystals we suggest Gem Tac Glue by Beacon.
It’s perfect for attaching all sorts of crystal to garments, cell phones, calculators, ceramic, glass, metal, etc. It’s also very handy for lots of other craft projects and around the house.
We have tested a lot of glue’s and found this to be the best glue on the market. It is trouble-free, non-toxic and safe, It is water-soluble only when it is wet and becomes waterproof when it dries. Gem-Tac is a high-quality, acrylic adhesive that dries clear and remains flexible even when dry. It is supplied in a large easy-to-use applicator bottle 4oz (US) Approx: 120ml enough for hundreds of crystals,
When used correctly, it adheres to fabrics, metals, paint, glass, wood, leather, plastic etc.
Please make shore the surface you are gluing to are clean, free from dust, dirt and grease, if using on hard surfaces such as glass or metal, clean the area with alcohol or a suitable cleaner before applying glue. You should always a test and practice before you starting any project. This will also help you to see how long the glue takes to dry and the length of time you have to move or change crystals. Gem-Tac takes approx: 30 min to dry, but 24 hours to set; this will vary depending on the type of surface you are gluing to, the temperature in the room etc: beware the surfaces will start to dry much quicker.
Practice makes perfect.
For fabric mobile phones etc: you may want to mark out your pattern using a magic marker or washable pen. Place a spot of glue with a cocktail stick or something similar onto your fabric; lightly push your crystal onto the spot so the glue just comes out around the edge, Smaller spots for smaller crystals and larger spots for larger crystals.
You can apply several spots of glue before setting your crystal but be careful not to let the surface of the glue start to dry.
When gluing crystals, use the glue so that glue comes up over the edges of the stone. This is to help prevent the stones from fall off. (The bigger/heavier the stone, the better the edges must be glued) This is because the bond of the mirror backing to the crystal is its weakest point, and Eventually, if abused, you will have a bright shiny spot of backing were the crystal has separated from its backing.
We do not recommend that you use super-glue as it tarnishes the crystals and will not last that long.
