Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you offer combined postage?
A: We will combine postage wherever possible, we may also upgrade postage to ensure that the item is delivered in the best possible way.
Q: Are your kits safe to use on newborn babies?
A: Yes, the material we use is very safe and completely harmless to even newborn babies.
Q: Do you post anywhere other than UK & southern Ireland?
A: No, as our items are very heavy, it is not cost effective to send overseas
Q: How easy is this to do?
A: Admittedly, casting is not the easiest thing in the world to do but our kits come with full instructions and helpful hints and tips to help you get the best results. We supply enough impression powder for you to have a few practices and get some wrong and still have enough powder left(remember you only need 1 or 2 really good casts to display).
Q: What if I use all the powder and am still not happy with my casts?
A: Even if you use up all of the powder, you don’t have to buy a whole new kit, just visit our shop and you can purchase the impression powder separately so it’s not the end of the world and it won’t cost you a fortune to get it right.
Q: Can the powder be used on sensitive skin?
A: The powder we use is proper dental grade standard. It is normally used by dentists to take impressions in the mouth, which I am sure you will agree is a very sensitive area. The powder is non-toxic and biodegradable, so it is totally safe to use on skin.
Q: My mould sets too quickly and I haven’t enough time.
A: The measures that I give are designed to give you quite a wet mix so as to give you the most time to work with the product but if you are finding this still isn’t enough time you can add a little more water and make sure that it is cold.
Q: Can I re-use the mould when I get a really good one?
A: No, unfortunately once the cast is made up you have to break it open to get the cast out.
Q: I don’t get on with the plastic bags, are there other things I can use?
A: Yes. The bags are chosen because they proved to be the easiest option for less experienced casters but if you wish to, you can try casting in a cup (see through plastic is best) or if you are feeling very adventurous then you can use J-cloths (this will create a more open hand).
Q: I am casting a new baby, what advice would you offer?
A: I find it looks better with a new baby if you cast their feet, as their hands tend to be clenched and although this doesn’t in itself cause a problem, the finished casts are not the most attractive to display. Of course if this is how you want them to look then that is up to you, I can only say what I feel looks best.
Q: I have twins. What frame should I use?
A: We offer an 8” x 10” Frame with a double mount which is perfect for displaying 2 casts on either side, so you don’t need to pay extra for a bigger frame, you can just buy this size and it works really well and looks fabulous.
Q: My child won’t stay still, what will happen if they wriggle their fingers?
A: Not a problem, the cast is captured at the exact moment the powder sets, so even if they wriggle, the moment will be captured as they are, thus making each one unique. I find distraction to be the best tool, once you have their hand in the mixture, distract them with something else and before they know it, it’s time to take their hand out.
