Selected rough sawn boards.

These stock boards at 2" thick vary in width from 140mm to 220mm wide.  I select the best matching boards I have to achieve the overall required width of worktop.  These boards are now ready to go through the planer/ thicknesser which trims them down to 41mm thick.

Jointing.

The boards now have their edges trimmed and matched to eachother, biscuits joints inserted every 7/ 8 inches apart, glued and clamped up.  They will remain clamped up for around 24 hours to ensure a good, strong long lasting bond.

The sanding and finishing process.

The worktop goes through a number of sanding stages, firstly using a belt sander with 40 grit paper to flatten the worktop.  Then with 60 grit belts the finishing process is underway.  Changing to an orbital sander with 80 grit then to 150 grit the worktops are complete and ready for the required finish to be applied.
