A Strings

Optima Gold differ from regular guitar strings in many ways that ultimately
provides greater tone and reliability for the player. Optima begin by selecting
the finest laboratory quality steel alloy which is then dipped in 24 Carat Gold
twice. This drastically enhances the qualities of the string.
  
  Strength -   with gold being one of the strongest materials available,
           the life of the string is greatly extended. This is one of the major
           reasons Brian May (Queen) has selected Optima as his choice
           of string - using an old sixpence coin as a plectrum, he requires durability
           more so than most.

  Tone    -   As you are aware, a new set of strings on a guitar will soon
           sound lifeless and dull within a couple of days, if that.
           Gold is a non corrosive material which is why Optima strings will
           give a brilliant tone, perfect intonation and excellent sustain for
           far longer. They will look and sound bright even after long periods
           of inactivity/storage - perfect for those higher priced guitars that
           sit in the glass display cabinets for months on end!
